Like many Canadians, Praxis Alumni Adele Kulyk found that our health care system wasn’t meeting her family’s needs. Waiting to see doctors then waiting to see specialists followed by the frustration and concern of not getting answers or being advised that treatment was not readily available or not affordable, drove Kulyk to take control of her family’s health. Kulyk became aware of three critical factors: Geographical location often limits access to medical specialists; Wait times can mean the difference between life and death; and there is a completely different approach to medicine available, an approach that is both compassionate and caring. “I have sent email after email and am still waiting for a response!” “I left several voice mail messages, yet he/she hasn’t returned my call!” There is nothing more frustrating than waiting for a response from an email or phone call, especially when there is a deadline or a critical decision hinges on an answer. People may forget to reply, may not have received the message before it was erased, or have simply been too busy. If one contact method isn’t working, switch your follow-up approach.
